It only just occurred to me how cruel we’ve been to your kind. You have not with malice swarmed, eaten, choked. You have only survived. We have greedily, blindfully decimated our own world. You live, and in your living you take. That is the way of nature.

Why, I shall never know, have we taught our children to crush your crimson wings, while poisoning the air you fly on? How tragic that you are killed for living merely in the wrong place at the wrong time. How the hordes would rebel if humans were treated thusly.

All this to say, I’m sorry—but you don’t belong here.
